Why does SMT process need THR products

In recent years, surface mount technology (SMT) has developed rapidly, which has a significant position in the electronics industry.In addition to the fully automated production scale effect,SMT has the following technical advantages: components can be pasted on both sides of the PCB to achieve high-density assembly;Even the smallest size of components can be precisely pasted, thus producing high-quality PCB components.

Connectors used for field wiring in the industrial field are usually high-power components.It can meet the need of transferring high voltage and large current.Therefore, sufficient electric clearance and creepage distance must be taken into account in the design.

In addition, easy operation and mechanical strength of the connector are also important factors.The connector is usually the "interface" between the PCB main board and the "external parts", so it may sometimes encounter considerable external forces.The elements assembled by through-hole technology are much more reliable than the corresponding SMT elements.Whether it is a strong pull, squeeze, or thermal shock, it can withstand and is not easily detached from the PCB.

In terms of cost, SMT components on most PCBS account for about 80%, while production cost only accounts for 60%.The through-hole components account for about 20%, while the production cost accounts for 40%, as shown in figure 2.It can be seen that the production cost of through-hole components is relatively high.One of the future challenges for many manufacturing companies will be to develop printed circuit boards using the pure SMT process.
